Computer Kindergarten Through 6th Grade

The Introduction to Computers Series starts with the immensely popular Computer Kindergarten for Grownups, and progresses through the “grades” to Computer 6th Grade for Grownups. This is a series of slow-paced, user-friendly classes designed specifically for first-time computer users. These classes present basic computer skills in a simplified, non-threatening manner that will make even the most apprehensive person comfortable using a computer.
Computer Kindergarten for Grownups– March 1 This is a slow-paced, user-friendly class for first-time computer users. Using Windows computers, this unique class covers the basics in a way that even the most inexperienced user will understand. We will cover turning the computer on, the desktop, using the mouse, opening and closing programs, understanding windows elements, getting out of trouble, and turning the computer off. All versions of Windows will be addressed. Prerequisites: None.
Computer 1st Grade for Grownups– March 8 In this class, you will learn how to work with text including inputting, inserting, moving, and erasing, learn basic word processing skills, and understand files and commands.
Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten or equivalent.
Computer 2nd Grade for Grownups– March 15 In this class, you will learn how to work with numbers including inputting, inserting, moving, erasing and simple mathematical operations. Included will be an introduction to spreadsheets providing an understanding of basic techniques, creating a workbook, inputting and working with data, formulas and functions, formatting and spreadsheet design. Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten and Computer 1st Grade or equivalent.
Computer 3rd Grade for Grownups– March 22 This hands-on class covers multitasking, working with graphics, using Windows drawing and painting tools, using copy and paste. Copying both text and graphics will be addressed. Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten and Computer 1st Grade or equivalent.
Computer 4th Grade for Grownups– March 29 This class provides an understanding of the Windows file management structure including drives, folders and files. Creating folders, copying and moving files, and deleting folders and files will be addressed. Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten and Computer 1st Grade or equivalent.
Computer 5th Grade for Grownups– April 12 This class covers using the Windows Desktop to enhance the user’s work environment. Included are saving files to the desktop, moving to and from My Documents and the Recycle Bin, creating folders and icons on the desktop and display properties. Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten, Computer 1st Grade and Computer 4th Grade or equivalent.
Computer 6th Grade for Grownups– April 19 Learn how to set up and install new programs, uninstall existing programs, use Windows Help, Search, Documents and Control Panel and more. Prerequisites: Computer Kindergarten, Computer 1st Grade, Computer 4th Grade and Computer 5th Grade or
equivalent.
Registration for this series begins
February 1, 2012
Registering for this series requires a commitment that you will attend ALL 7 sessions. If you are unable to attend ALL of the sessions, please do not sign up for the series.
Failure to attend one session without prior notification to the library will result in expulsion from the series. Failure to attend 2 sessions with prior notification to the library will result in expulsion from the series.
Admission will be denied if you arrive more than 15 minutes late
